This course provides a hands-on introduction to the BRC cluster. Current users are welcome to attend as a refresher.

  • Navigating the linux filesystem
  • Linux file permissions
  • Connecting to remote machines
  • Transferring files
  • Editing files
  • Managing processes
Grid Engine
  • Introduction to Grid Engine
  • SGE queues on the cluster
  • Types of jobs
  • Job submission
  • Job monitoring / administration

IoP computers will be available for use, although attendees are welcome to bring their own laptops if they prefer. Linux liveCDs will be available for those who wish to try out desktop versions of linux on their laptops.

As our cluster is behind the SLaM firewall and must be accessed with a VPN token, Stuart Newman has kindly offered to let us use the SGDP cluster for Grid Engine practice.
